Staged phase-out

Picture

The criterion of the guideline with requirements of energy-using products concentrate on the energy consumption during the entire product lifecycle. For prodducts mainly used in the sectors street, office and industry lighting there already exists a phase-out scenario starting in 2010 to eliminate less efficient light sources step by step.

Scenario***

2010

  • Phase out of T8 halophosphate fluorescent lamps*
  • Phase out of T12 fluorescent lamps* (official date according to directive 2012)

2012

  • Phase out of high-pressure sodium lamps (HPS): HPS standard efficiency
  • Phase out of metal halide lamp lamps (MH): less efficient MH lamps (no OSRAM lamps affected)

2014

  • Review of the regulations by the EU Commission

2015

  • Phase out of high-pressure mercury lamps (HPM)
  • Phase out of plug-in/retrofit high-pressure sodium lamps of higher wattages**

2017

  • Phase out of medium efficient metal halide lamps (MH)

* Through minimum efficiency requirements
** Plug-in lamps must correspond to Super/Plus HPS level
*** Data may differ from the final EU directive

Definition of phase-out:

Phasing out means that the relevant product groups may no longer be placed on the
market in the European Union. This relates to initial marketing only. Stocks at OEMs, wholesalers and end customers are not affected of course and may continue to be sold and used as they are already on the market and the measures do not relate to the use of the products.
